Dedicated Moving Resources
There is no real secret to what makes a successful move. The understanding is that your possessions, regardless of whether or not there is a lot, will be relocated as quickly and as cost-efficiently as possible and will arrive at their new home in the same condition as they left their old one. It’s quite simple, isn’t it.
At Sage Moving & Storage, we’ve been meeting the high expectations of our clients by staying true to one simple philosophy: keep it simple. Despite the type of business that we are in, and the logistical complexities of some of our larger relocation projects, the belief in keeping things simple remains true. We know how to plan a move, whether it is a local move to the other side of town or a long-distance move to the other side of the country. We also have considerable experience in organising and executing many successful overseas moves.
For you, when it comes down to it, you simply have to hire a moving company that you can trust and which offers the array and quality of service that you need, and entrust them with the task. However, the trick is finding the right moving company in the first place. So we have put together a section dedicated to pointing you in the right direction. Are your candidate companies really up to scratch? Do they show you the attention you deserve? Can they plan the move to the detail required? And, of course, what can you do to prepare for the move itself?
When it comes to selecting a moving company to transport all of your belongings, there are several factors that need to be considered. Firstly, what are their costs and are they everything that they claim to be. The best way of finding out the answers to both of these questions is to talk to them. Speak to a representative and ask about their full list of services, special provisions, packing supplies, insurance coverage and customer support. All of these are things that reputable and professional movers will be able to speak about with ease, so if they sound a bit put out by your questions then it’s possible they are not everything they make themselves out to be.
When it comes to costs, make sure that you get at least three estimates from prospective moving companies so as to be able to get a clear idea of the options out there. Because our industry is regulated so closely, estimates are unlikely to differ greatly so if you get one that seems too good to be true, it’s possible that the particular company could include hidden extras on your bill after the move is complete.
For your part, you’ll need to organize your things for packing, sometimes from as early as six weeks prior to the move. We cannot stress the importance of planning enough as it is vital in ensuring this major operation is completed properly, with everything safely packed away in plenty of time. A complete inventory needs to be taken and while this is a major operation in itself, it can save you time in the long run as the big day approaches. We find that usually possessions are categorized in three separate groups: those for the moving truck, those for the car and those for the garage sale.
A packing strategy, where items in certain rooms are packed first before items in another room, is equally important since not everything can be switched off, wrapped up and sealed in a box weeks before a move. This means that you will have to strategize several weeks in advance. You must also get your hands on the right materials. Packing boxes, tape, packing peanuts, Styrofoam, bubble-wrap and labels (maybe even color) all need to be purchased while a designated space in your home should be cordoned off to provide somewhere for packed boxes to be stored.
Remember too that storage space may also need to be secured for a short period of time if it is necessary to unpack in stages in your new home or office. This may only be for a night or weekend but could be for a number of weeks. However, it can help to alleviate the unpacking pressure that can see a new home or office clogged by boxes at every turn.
All of these factors are important for you to bear in mind as your search for the right moving company for you and prepare properly for the major move ahead. However, don’t forget to give our customer service desk a call for any queries that you may have.
