Preparing a sofa for your Rockville Movers

It is one of the most awkward items to move but one that you simply can’t imagine doing without. A sofa offers too much comfort to you and the family, and once your Rockville movers relocate it to your new home, it will be a welcome luxury when you’re already tiring of the unpacking and need to relax. But how do you prepare your sofa so that your Rockville moving company can take it out of your home with ease?

Well, there are several things that you can do before the movers arrive. We’ve compiled a short list of them to help you get started, though it may be an idea to leave your sofa (or at least one of them) until the last day to prepare.

Wrapping Your Sofa

Your sofa may be leather or upholstered in another expensive fabric. Perhaps it’s not so expensive at all, but the point is that you want this piece of furniture to be protected from damage during the move. The best thing to do is wrap the sofa completely. For this be sure to remove all cushions other loose pieces. There are sofa blankets that you can get in a variety of sizes that will cover your sofa fully. These may be available from your Rockville movers. If you can’t get your hands on one then you can use regular blankets or bed sheets, though you may need two at a time to cover the furniture completely. Use string or tape to tie or stick the wrapping securely.

Remove or Secure Legs

Once the sofa is wrapped, you can remove the legs if they are removable. This is important as the legs are often the problem areas of the whole piece as the movers try to manoeuvre it through doorways, stairwells and passageways. Once they are removed, stored them in a bag or small box (shoe box perhaps), which you then label clearly. If the legs are not removable then you should try to add some padding to them. Try some strips of cardboard, wrapped around each one and secured with tape - perhaps use bubble-wrap inside the cardboard. The idea is to protect the doorways and the legs themselves at the same time.

Know the Route Dimensions

As soon as your Rockville movers arrive they are going to want to have a clear route through which to remove the sofa. So, it’s a good idea to have the measurements of the doorways, hallways and stairwells that the sofa is likely to pass down. It’s important to see things from the moving team’s point of view, so anything that might be done to make the task easier would be greatly appreciated. Also, think about alternative routes, such as through a living room window – a little unorthodox perhaps, but sometimes it’s the easiest way.

These are some of the things that you can do to prepare your sofa for moving day. Armchairs, as part of a set, can be treated in the same way, though they generally cause less havoc as their dimensions are different. Remember too, that some sofas are made to easily disassemble and re-assemble, so that will make things even easier.
