Striving for a Greener, Cleaner, Happier World
For generations, the moving industry used basic tools and transportation to get its clients from one home to another. Ropes and blankets held family furniture on old trucks that bellowed exhaust fumes and left little peace to either the environment or the ears in the communities that they drove through. Of course, this was the moving industry of the past and in recent decades much has been done to raise the industry standards in both efficiency and cleanliness. In a modern world where the environment is held more dearly than in previous eras, ‘Going Green’ and keeping the air we breathe and the land we live on clean is important – as much to us as it is to you.
That is why, at Sage Moving & Storage, showing our commitment to the environment is part and parcel of our own work ethic. We have taken steps to ensure that our carbon footprint is kept to a minimum while our contribution to environmentally friendly programs is kept to a maximum.
The Box Exchange
Amongst the most popular and most valuable drives introduced by the moving industry has been the box exchange. It is designed to see that moving boxes used in both residential and commercial moves are not simply thrown onto the trash heap after the job is completed. The box exchange allows those who have completed a move and have unpacked everything, to bring their boxes back to a moving company for others to make use of. In this way, a box can be used four, six, or maybe even 10 times before it is disposed of. Consequently, the pressures on the environment are lessened, with the need for new boxes reduced and amount of refuse reduced.
The Paperless Office
At Sage Moving & Storage we have striven to develop a positive office atmosphere and there are few more positive aspects than an environmentally friendly office. That is why we have introduced a paper-free policy that has seen our dependency on paper fall to a minimal amount. We now focus on the electronic storage of files and the sending of letters, memos and notices by email. Our only need for paper now rests on the production of contracts for our clients, as well as receipts, both of which remain a requirement by law.
Work From Home
Of course, cardboard boxes and office memos are not the only things that can have a negative effect on the environment, which is why we have also instigated a work-from-home policy with a portion of our staff. Rather than having everyone drive to work every morning, adding to traffic congestion as well as the consumption of fossil fuels, some of our staff are allowed to work from home. We also encourage our staff to car-pool which means there are less cars on the road and, therefore, less gasoline consumed.
More in the Pipeline
Our commitment to make a real difference to the world around us compels us to continue looking for new ‘green’ opportunities. ‘Going Green’ is not simply about making a promise here and there but actively seeking better ways to do our bit. That is why there are several options which Sage Moving & Storage is currently considering. They range from the use of reusable, re-sealable plastic boxes to adapting our fleet of trucks to use alternative ‘green’ fuel. No decisions have been made as yet, but as soon as one is made, you’ll be the first to know. Just drop into us or visit us on this site to keep abreast of all of our new ‘green’ developments.
